The ViceBreaker H1 has a range of ½ mile in open country. Terrain, vegetation, buildings, and fences can reduce this. For the very best range, hold the transmitter away from your body.

How long does a transmitter battery last?

This depends, of course, on how much you use it, but you can expect at least six months from the 9-volt battery in your transmitter under normal use. Many people experience even more. Storing your unit in extremely hot or cold areas can substantially shorten transmitter battery life.

How long does a receiver charge last?

This depends on how heavily you use it. Frequent applications of stimulation will drain the batteries faster than just having it on the horse. Also, use or storage in cold temperatures can reduce battery life. Be sure to turn off the receiver when it is not being used.

A receiver that has been in storage for more than a month should be recharged immediately before use because the receiver batteries will drain slowly even if the receiver isn't being used. Please consult your ViceBreaker H1 Owner's Guide for tips on proper battery care.

What is the recommended receiver charging procedure?

Charge the receiver for 14 hours before first use. When the light on the receiver blinks rapidly, you need to recharge. Lift the rubber protection flap covering the receiver charging jack. If the unit is very cold (has been kept outdoors or in a vehicle in the winter time), allow the batteries to come up to room temperature before charging. Plug the charger into a wall AC outlet, and the charging plug into the receiver jack. It can be inserted in either direction. The red light on the receiver should glow solid all the time the unit is on charge. Charge for 14 hours. When you are finished, disconnect both the charger from the wall and the charging plug from the receiver, and carefully replace the rubber protection flap over the charging jack.

It is okay to use the unit before a full 14-hour charge is completed. You will just need to recharge sooner.

Can the electrical stimulation injure my horse?

Studies have proven that electrical stimulation is a safe, humane, and effective way to communicate with many animals. In addition, ViceBreaker H1 has adjustable intensity levels to accommodate the most sensitive equine temperaments.

Is it safe to use ViceBreaker H1 in the rain?

Yes. ViceBreaker H1 is based on proven technology that has been used for decades in training hunting dogs, and works safely and effectively even in swimming water and other wet conditions. In addition, ViceBreaker H1 has patented insulated contact points that ensure consistent stimulation when the unit or the animal is wet.

How does remote vice breaking work?

Remote equine training is based on proven principles of behavior modification. These principles establish that timing of corrections is of the utmost importance. ViceBreaker H1 is an extremely effective way of communicating with your horse at the instant you need to, no matter how far away he is.

What vices can the product be used for?

Some of the vices the ViceBreaker H1 can be successfully used to stop include cribbing and wind sucking, wood chewing, aggression towards people, horses, or other animals, stopping the hot walker, and stall and confinement vices such as weaving, stall kicking, pawing, self mutilation, and eating bedding or dirt. In addition, over 20 other vices are listed in the ViceBreaker H1 Owner's Guide as suitable for being cured with ViceBreaker H1.

Remember that a horse may have a medical reason for a vice, and always have your veterinarian rule out possible medical causes for the vice before using ViceBreaker H1. Also, please read the complete ViceBreaker H1 Owner's Guide and learn the guidelines for the safe and correct use of ViceBreaker H1.

ViceBreaker H1 should not be used while riding.

How long does curing a vice usually take? Do I have to watch the horse forever?

Most problems can be resolved with one or two applications. You do not have to watch the horse forever. A longer program may be needed depending on the personality and temperament of the individual horse. Also, a longer program could be expected for certain vices, particularly cribbing because of the addictive endorphin release that can accompany this vice . In testing by equine trainers and veterinarians, it was found that some horses may need a reminder a few months later. Owning a ViceBreaker H1 can act as a permanent insurance policy against behavior problems developing throughout your horse's life.

Do I need a dummy collar?

A dummy collar is rarely needed. It is most likely to be needed when you are curing cribbing due to the longer period of treatment needed to stop a cribber than to cure most other vices. You may need a dummy collar when your receiver is being recharged. A dummy collar can be ordered from us as an accessory. Please visit our Ordering page for more information.

Can I use an electric collar made for dogs on my horse?

We recommend against doing this. The stimulation intensity levels in ViceBreaker H1 and its other safety features have been carefully designed for use with horses and are based on research by equine trainers and equine veterinarians.

Why are the numbers on the transmitter dial printed differently for Levels 5 and 6?

Levels 1-4 reflect small gradual increases beginning with a level that is barely perceptible to the horse. They are for normal situations. Levels 5 and 6 are much higher and are for extreme situations. Please consult your ViceBreaker H1 Owner's Guide for more information on the correct levels of stimulation for different situations.
